What about setting an alarm on your phone? You might be able to make a reoccurring alarm for, say, the same three days a week at a certain time. Maybe you just get up 15 mins earlier and do yoga for that 15 mins - it doesn't have to be a crazy long time in order to reap benefits. Think of it as a meeting with your boss and make a commitment not to cancel. If you do, here are some vids I'd recommend: 5 min morning meditation to have a great day 15 min morning yoga 30 min restorative 20 min beginner yoga flow

I found this challenge on pinterest this morning and I just signed up here so I could join in. I had already made crow pose my New Year's Yoga Pose Resolution (that's a bit of a mouthful). I definitely need to improve my upper body strength, since any arm balances that require hands instead of forearms on the floor are currently one of my biggest challenges. I'm hoping that this challenge will help my baby crow grow up into a real, grown-up crow!

Count me in again! Great theme! I'm excited. Have to think about which pose I'll take... Maybe head- or handstand?!?

For me, my initial reaction to an injury is annoyance with my body, or worry that I'm getting older and blah blah blah. However, usually after the initial few minutes of annoyance or worry, I'm able to just flick a switch and take the thinking to a space where I can look for the silver lining. What is the lesson? If it's a wrist injury when I've been practicing too many arm balances, I think, "Ok, I need to back off and let the yoga practice work rather than get myself to work the practice" - does that make sense? Or sometimes I think that whenever there's an injury from over practicing that it's a sign I need to get back to a more gentle foundation and basics practice. It's a good lesson in staying patient.

I am in....I enjoyed the last challenge. I'm not sure what pose I want to do. I've been working myself up to headstand (adding dolphin pose in my flows to improve my strength). I haven't graduated beyond dolphin pose.. I've also played around with crow pose. I'm still debating..... but I'm leaning towards headstand because I think that would be easier to work towards in 30 days..... Looking forward to this challenge

I just joined the forum for the sole purpose of participating in this challenge, so I guess that means I'm in! I think the pose I'm going to work on is handstand. I've seen lots of challenges that I've wanted to do, but I'm never sure how to participate, so I end up pooping out. The problem is that I'm not sure how to actually participate. I've been practicing on and off for many years, but I've maintained a very regular practice for about 2 1/2 years now. I've been practicing at home lately but I usually use dvd's and right now I have a udaya subscription, so I don't know how to incorporate the challenge into my practice. Do I just do my regular practice and then work on my handstand just before savasana? Thanks so much! And so excited to be here!

I'm Katie, and I'm currently reading this from Cedar Falls, Iowa! I graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in 15 days... eep! After Christmas, I am moving to Englewood, CO (suburb of Denver) to reunite with my husband, Cass, who is currently working in Denver. I just found a yoga studio that offers $5 community classes there, so I'm hella excited to try it out!

So I would love to take the next step in yoga by working on headstands, handstands, and armstands. I'm going to be working on my crow pose, but outside of that I don't know what to start with. Should I start with a headstand, supported headstand, scorpion, or some other armstand? Don't know what people 'start' with. Thanks!

I'm in. I really want to work on side crow. That pose is super difficult for me and this should be fun working on it.

Thanks Candace My upper body strength as well as hip flexibility both need some work, but I think I'm up to it

I think so! Grasshopper is not only strength in the upper body and core but a lot of flexibility in the hips and torso, so pay close attention to that when you practice. Great picks! Hi! Welcome! I'm going to have a suggested schedule every week that will give links to various videos and sequences for each day of the week (with some rest days!). It also tells you exactly what to do and when to do it when it comes to practicing your chosen pose. It's your choice to either pick and choose a few links from the schedule, follow all of it, or do your own thing. My suggestion would be to take a look at the schedule when it comes out (every Thursday) and see how it goes for you, then adjust as needed. Hope that helps to clear things up

I'm definitely in! I'm wondering whether I should try for grasshopper pose. I can hold baby grasshopper for a few seconds, so clearly that needs work as well. Do you think it would be plausible to start with baby grasshopper and over the course of the 31 days try for full grasshopper and see if I make it?

Yay, great choice! Let us know! Happy you'll be joining in! Let us know what you decide! Happy to have you on board! That's a great one! Yay! Do what scares you! That's where the magic happens Yay! Glad to have you join in! Crow is a great choice! Oo quite a decision you have! They'll likely all benefit from the consistent practice, so really it's just a matter of which one to focus on. Or maybe you choose them all and see how they improve over time?

Hi everyone ! i discovered YBC a couple days ago and really enjoy the blog, so i came to check the forum as well i am typing from Mirabel, Quebec, Canada mother of a 4yr old boy, expecting my second boy by febuary 2nd practicing yoga through dvds on and off since 10 years ? and now doing a weekly yoga class with a teacher i really love since 2-3 years ago. i condsider myself beginner/intermediate. I am just now starting to look into the other limbs of yoga sutra to implement yoga a little bit more in my daily life. I find it helps me to stay connected, present, and makes my mood much more stable. I am looking into practicing meditation more regularaly as well. at the moment i am following prenatal yoga dvd's and my experience to keep my spine and legs mobile during pregnancy and i am looking forward to being able to do regular yoga again after a coupe weeks postnatal and really wanting to get into headstand, handstand and back bends in the near future. nice to meet all of you !

My easy go to meal of the day is Rolled Oats cooked with water, frozen blueberries and greek yogurt, all mixed together. When I remember and want something a little different but also easy I do steel cut oats. I let my steel cut oats soak overnight in either water or soy milk along with some chia seeds. The next morning I stick it in a blender w/ some frozen fruit and whatever else I'm in the mood for - it gives it a nutty taste.

It is nice to hear that others are familiar with this issue too. And you all make good points about varying the practise, practising patience and letting the yoga work instead of the body. I have tried those things and I do feel a difference. I reach for that point at the end of the comfortzone and when I think I am there I back up just a bit - because I think that´s where my actual point of progression is. So maybe I am in the process of learning to listen to my body

I heard that ghee bulletproof coffee tastes delicious! My favorite breakfast is one grapefruit and 2 boiled eggs. Another one is an egg baked in avocado, here is one version of many: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Place each avocado half in a ramekin. Crack 1 egg into each avocado half; season with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Place ramekins on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven until entire egg is cooked through, about 15 minutes. Sprinkle each avocado with bacon and chives. Or leave the bacon and use feta cheese instead.

Thaijackjordan, You are correct to ask about this. Because "Yoga should never hurt. Not while we are practicing and not afterwards." Sirsasana - headstand is mostly about having the necessary core strength and there is not really much skill involved. When you say that you can only hold dolphin pose for a few seconds that is good sign that the core strength isn't there yet. And like the others have said it is important to have a strong base to keep the weight off the head. The base for headstand and dolphin are basically the same. It is important to keep the elbows the same width as the shoulders. Have the entire length of the fingers to the outside of the arms for the correct distance. The stability in the pose comes from having a long base in the forearms, not a wide base. Also the weight goes into the forearms, elbows and wrists. Not into the hands. For correct hand placement lightly clasp the tips of the fingers, just at the tips. The hands never tilt outwards, slightly inwards is fine. The weight goes into the base of the wrist, not the hands. The video above, from Candace is very good but it is hard to see the fine details a video. It would be a good idea to do about million dolphins before trying headstand. Just do it three times a day and the strength will build up quickly. Some postures use headstand as a starting point then push up so the head is completely off the ground like Pincha Mayurasana. You want to get this sensation in dolphin of being able to hold your entire weight up before attempting more.
