I think the answer should be yes.
Simply put, yoga is a part of human optimization. In order to reap the most amount of benefit, you need all of the right pieces.

A mantra must come from the heart for it to be effective, it has to be something meaningful to you weather in Sanskrit or one you make up yourself - as long as it comes from a place of sincerity and devotion you can use it effectively for your practice!

I've recently got more into kettle bell workouts from following Onnit Academy - they post really good stuff.

Another source of inspiration is watching MMA. Those are the most athletic people in the world, so seeing what they can do and what is possible to accomplish as a human is really inspiring to me.

At a yoga class I'm usually thinking please stop talking when the teacher is continuously going on and on about things that are not relevant.

My Lululemon's "Reversible mat" arrived on Friday and I've tried it out this weekend. I'm very pleased it is very sticky and comfortable. The downside is the intense rubber smell, but no surprises on that, everybody even Lululemon say it stinks in the beginning. Hope it fades away.

Migraines are the worst. I used to get them a lot, and I think I figured out why – nutrition. Once I cleaned up my diet and started making it a point to drink lots of water, they vanished. They still come back from time to time, but not nearly as frequent. Combined with yoga and meditation, the frequency of the migraines has gone down incredibly. Doctors had prescribed me a few different things in the past that didn't seem to make things any better, so I took it into my own hands. Who knows your body better than you?

It took a long time to realize what the triggers were... for me it was alcohol, lack of hydration, and sugar intake. Sometimes a migraine will hit when you least expect it, or in the most inconvenient time, and I have come up with some methods to help get rid of them. Depending where you live, you may or may not be able to get your hands on some cannabis – that's the #1 key to fighting migraines. After that, run a hot shower with some peppermint oil on the ground, so the steam creates a nice atmosphere (I learned that on the YBC forum ), soak in the shower, in the dark, for as long as needed. After you're done, start the meditation on your mat. I've found that sitting up straight helps the most – laying down in the dark with a cold cloth over your eyes also helps, but for me, sitting up straight makes them go away much faster. After you're comfortable enough, try some poses out and see what feels good.

    I hope that helps!

Yes, the pre/post run videos would work, but I made this one specifically as a pre-workouts warm up although I didn't actually promote it that way. For post workout, I like this restorative chill out sequence. Great idea, though, to start creating videos specifically for working out - I'm going to get on that! Thanks!

Hey Candace – I was wondering if you are going to make (or have already made and I just cant find them) videos for pre and post workouts.

Or would the pre and post run videos you've made work just as well?

    Thanks!

With respect, can we keep it about the yoga, please? Candace rocks it in videos, and she is very generous in how she shares her yoga with us. If she thinks that there is merit in having her less-flexible husband star in her videos designed to help less flexible folks, why not? These types of comments do not add to the discussion.

Is there a Trader Joe's nearby? They have these awesome apple fruit bars (apples + coconut is my favorite). They compete with those "Apples and..." bars, but are much better IMO, and only $1.

These have been one of my favorite snacks lately, too. Great with hummus.

    Hey there!
Sure, happy to share! Mostly I just blogged and blogged for years even though I had no readers. I have a background in teaching so during my own yoga teacher training I had all these ideas I wanted to share and thought a blog would be a good place for them. I was mostly doing it for myself, just to get these ideas out - no real end goal with where I wanted to go with the blog. I always approached the blog as a job since I was moving all the time for my husband's job and didn't really have much going on for myself. I set specific hours for myself for blogging and kept to them. I also was always teaching regularly and pointing students in the direction of the blog. I was active on social media and acquired some readers that way. It was a super slow rate of growth but the people who read the blog are awesome, likeminded people, and I'd rather have those readers who are truly interested and add to the YBC community. If I had just posted 'filler, fluffy' stuff with highly clickable titles just to get clicks, I wouldn't have attracted the type of people I want, you know what I mean? For photography, I invested in a great camera (started with a rebel 2, and then upgraded to a canon 6d) and played around until I figured out how to use it. Over time, I've learned what photographs will be highly pinnable, and what are best for social media promotion and what should just be tossed out. Reviewing products came as the readership grew, and I always try to make sure it's a natural, organic fit for the readers/blog and only if it's a benefit to all people involved. (You wouldn't believe some of the pitches I get - had a casino the other day want to sponsor a post...uhhhh not a natural fit!) There's really no quick way to make it all come together I don't think - just lots of consistent work blogging about stuff you really, truly love and would write about even if people weren't out there reading it.

I'm hoping to do more US-based blogging retreats/workshops, just finishing up the spring things before planning the next adventures. I have looked into webinars but the blogging workshop is really, really hands on and requires partner work and I just don't think it'd be that effective without the big round table discussion I envisioned when I designed it. But we'll see, I might offer one to one consulting.
