  1. Hi Candace. Can you recommend any restorative poses to loosen up tight hip flexors? Thanks!
  2. Hi there! Great question about the leggings. Sticker shock on those puppies can be daunting. Here are the bargain leggings I've tried. Nordstrom Rack now has an online store! They have an exclusive brand Z for Zella, and leggings retail for about $27. Great quality! They also carry the Balance Collection by Marika, which goes for around $20. The fabrics are thinner but so soft and opaque. I also like Marika Tek and Prana at Nordstrom Rack. You can find great buys at TJMax and Marshall's on all kinds of brands. I recently discovered that Lucy sells at Dick's Sporting Goods, and they usually have a good clearance sale this time of year. And if you don't mind a hunt, Athleta and Glyder (my personal fav) have great sales. I've gotten leggings at both places for right around $30. One other place that looks good but I haven't personally tried is Yoga Outlet. Lots of fun prints there, but the prices are higher. Hope this helps! Happy shopping
  3. I've been using the Gaiam mat almost daily over the past month. Pros: Awesome grip (even in hot yoga), light weight, pretty design Cons: surprisingly, it's not as cushy as I first thought but still plenty of support; it's cut a bit smaller than the Manduka, and I miss the extra space
  4. Thank you for the advice, Candace! After months of research, I've decided to do my teacher training with a local studio that I love and admire. I start this Friday! Excited and kinda freaked out that I finally took the plunge
  5. I am considering yoga teacher training with LifePower Yoga. Has anyone done this program? Would love to hear your thoughts.
  6. Athleta's semi-annual sale started yesterday. Some great deals! I have no ties to Athleta, just thought I'd share Yoga Outlet has 12 days of deals going on. GREAT deals on gear, gifts, etc. Again, no ties
  7. Thank you so much! This is very helpful. It's strange that as my practice grows, I find myself repeatedly coming back to the basics. My last obsession was chaturanga. Sorry for the babble. Thanks again!
  8. I just posted this under "yoga gear". Maybe it will help. I just bought the Gaiam Sol. Nice and cushy (my knees need that, too :-) but haven't used it long enough to make any conclusions about the grip.
  9. Thank you for the feedback! I gave the Manduka a good salt scrub last weekend, but I'm still slipping like Bambi on ice. I'm sure others have success with this mat, but for me it's just not worth the hassle and wrist pain. I came across this pretty comprehensive mat review and thought it might be helpful for others who are blessed/cursed with hands that won't stay put. http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-yoga-mat/ Also found this mother of all mats, but it's pretty pricey: http://liforme.com/us/
  10. Hi Candace! I've noticed how you gracefully float forward from down dog to forward fold in your videos. I really struggle with this transition. Even when I concentrate on engaging the core, my forward hop is pretty clumsy. Do you have any advice for how to improve my flow from down dog to forward fold? Thanks so much!
  11. I recently purchased the Manduka ProLite, and my hands slide every time I use it (before my palms even start to get sweaty). I've been using it daily for 3 weeks without much improvement. The package insert from Manduka mentions a sea salt scrub, but I'm a little nervous about taking a scrub brush to my not-so-small investment. Has anyone tried this? Any other suggestions to speed up the "break-in" process?
  12. How did I forget BondiBand?? The best sweat-wicker out there!
  13. I made my yoga bag. I know, pretty nerdy. But the pattern is free, and it's the best bag. Even has pockets for keys and stuff. http://www.amybutlerdesign.com/pdfs/NigellaYogaBag.pdf
  14. I've had an ongoing headband struggling, as well. I'm so excited to try everyone's suggestions. I like these from Goody http://www.amazon.com/Goody-Colour-Collection-Metallic-Headwrap/dp/B002SVKKCC/ref=sr_1_8?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1415302792&sr=1-8&keywords=goodie+headbands
