I freaking love, love, love Candace's new book. Ive been a follower for maybe 2 -3 years now, and have been looking forward to a book with basically her do this not this cut outs. This is so much more - I love her off the mat peices - it's showing us her journey and how she learned so much gratitude from things that have killed other people and if not physically killed them, their spirit for sure. she talks about listening to her body (which to me is a huge thing yoga teaches us). THANK YOU CANDACE (yep, I'm yelling, happy yelling)

http://yogabycandace.com/blog/2014/9/4/confessions-of-a-yoga-teacher-im-bad I love this post! And I love your red lipstick Candace! You rock it!

I'm really bad, like super super bad.
    I love meat
hate flowery yoga talk (once I was in a class w/ a sub and there were 3 college aged guys in the class. The 60 year old teacher at one point said something like "lift your ankle towards your uterus" I immediately lost focus, looked at the guys and actually snorted out loud at the look on their faces.)
I like normal music - chanting makes me nervous. My teacher has some Indian rap songs and I love them, even though in my head I make the words sound English w/ weird made up lyrics.
I hate meditation - I do fall asleep and wake up startled when I start to snore.
Whenever I go into a place that has a budda statue I want to dress it - put on a fun hat, sunglasses, fake mustache...
I totally notice all the cute yoga outfits and have to find out where they were bought
When someone falls during class - I laugh as soon as I know they are ok...

What makes you a bad Yogi

I love this statement. I work at a YMCA and have convinced many people to give our yoga class a try. Many have been to classes where there is only chanting and talk of celestial beings, and they hated it. The yoga teacher at my Y is amazing. She is so structured that I can predict what comes next many times, yet she plays top 40 chilled music, we laugh if someone falls down, we laugh when I wear my clothes inside out by accident, and we always laugh when she confuses her left with right or messes up a pose. And at the end of our practice we are just as focused and clear and happy as a studio where they spent the entire time doing their practice the way they loved it. it is a fun place where we have college athletes, people trying desperately to lose weight, personal trainers, beginners, grand dads w/ sciatic issues, people who love to exercise, people who love to eat. I've taken yoga in very strict studios where I was afraid to try harder poses b/c I was so intimidated. It's a great thing to have diversity and find a place where you fit in.

I hear what you're saying and I think it's normal (although probably not idea) to feel a bit insecure or like people are out to get me - today I went to a master class w Jason Crandall and so many people were floating up to handstand and back down in their sun salutations. I can't do that or even come close to that, and I also felt a fever coming on, sore throat, and had forgotten my yoga mat so was using a beach towel (not recommended) and just started to feel down about myself. The older woman in front of me kept looking around and popping up into these inversions when we were meant to be resting... and I noticed my mind start to wander into the whole 'What does she think she is she doing?!' sort of thing before realizing that what she did or didn't do wasn't my concern, and how someone else makes me feel is really, for the most part, up to me. The book The Four Agreements was really helpful in dealing with these sorts of issues that spring up and if you're interested, I would suggest checking it out. Essentially it says that what other people say or do is really just a reflection of their own experience and has nothing to do with you and therefore we shouldn't take anything personally.

I thought it was interesting because there were a lot of yoga teachers in the room and one of them asked Jason what he says for students that won't stay in savasana and just up and leave. The lady was like, "I know they leave because they don't like to be still or they feel they don't need it but they DO need it!" And he said something that was so profound: I am the parent of one person, my daughter. What anyone else has going on in their life is really none of my business and I refuse to take it personally. If a student asks my opinion about savasana, I will certainly tell them I think they should try to stay if they can...but otherwise, I just let it go, and I don't assume to know why they are leaving savasana. Because really, who knows - maybe they have a kid to pick up, maybe they need to administer medicine to a dying parent - like we really just do not know what other people have going on, so it's best to just let it go."

In the same sense, I would just try to do the same for any 'special' yoga students who are less than welcoming towards you. I know it's hard - it was certainly hard for me to flick off the switch to my brain today in that class - but it's not worth it to me to feel so down by swimming in those thoughts, you know?

I love to run. I run 3 - 4 times a week. I HATE sprints too! I discovered doing yoga right after a run is crazy amazing!! I've been doing yoga off and on for almost 20 years but have become addicted to it after starting it back up again last year to help with a hip issue from running - it has allowed me to continue to be able to run.

I run in my neighborhood which is pretty lame w/ traffic, but I have had a few older ladies who couldn't see far over the steering wheel play chicken with me. they won. I do the same - I slow down if we are at a crossroads and if they wave me on or stop, I go - otherwise I stand in place until they go, muttering under my breath about how rude they are lol. I ALWAYS run facing traffic coming towards me. I want to be able to jump out of the way if they are coming too close.

I just tried THE BEST foam roller http://rumbleroller.com/foam-rollers.html . I had some IT/Hip pain that was just not going away (my yoga practice has slowed down recently w/ all my kids Spring activities and trying to sell our house. I had an immediately quick burst of pain and then after about 3 rolls, my hip felt incredibly better. I'm going to buy the smaller one the next time I get a good Dicks sporting goods coupon

Great question! Greg used to add it in addition to his protein shakes after knee surgery just because it's supposed to be good for the joints and collagen etc. I don't drink protein shakes at the moment because #GAPSproblems and I don't believe Lauren has tried it in a protein shake. But yeah, you can add it to your protein OR you could use it on its own in a shake. I used to do something similar - when making this really indulgent super weird recipe I ate nearly every night last summer: 1T peanut butter (salted, duh), 1T coconut butter, 1t cacao powder, 1t vital proteins and then mix it all up. The proteins would kind of work it into a cool texture and it was YUM.

I got mine and filmed this little unboxing video for my YouTube Channel, I love watching unboxing videos of beauty boxes, healthy living and things like that so I though why not share what I got?!? let me know what you think!

I love everything in the box...the emmy's macaroons didn't even make it to the end of filming the video hahaha they are SO good!

I think I've tried everything in the box except for the salve...can someone tell me what I should use it for?? I am so not fancy enough hahaha.

I used the soulful essence mat cleaner after my yoga in the park session and I like it a lot! I also though it was so sweet that the company took the time to post on my instagram saying that they hope I enjoy the mat cleaner, such a good feeling and that is a great quality for a company to have!!

Candace - If you do decide to make it open for the masses and everyone I'm local and would be happy to help, that way I can make sure there are no crickets in mine

Who else got theirs and wants to talk?
First off, I love the font in the card that gives all the coupon codes and website addy's for the products - What is this font? I must have it.
Second, I'm so glad I didn't get any food with crickets. I'm sorry, just don't think I'm ready for it.

Third - My favorite product is the lip bag from My other bag!

I've already tried the King & My bride salve - I did a workout w/ a ton of heavy kettlebell & no gloves - so callouses were killing me on my hands. The salve really helped!

yoga bliss mat cleaner! love the smell - I really like their website and will be buying some of the dog products and a few others really caught my eye (next paycheck)

vital proteins - tried it this morning - loved Lauren's post using it in a recipe and have wanted to try it, but didn't want to fork over 40 some bucks on it to try it.

Wild Zora beef bars. I've always been really grossed out by beef jerky. I never would have tried it in a million years until this morning. I figured my 10 year old or husband would eat it. OMG - it's like a steak dried up. I loved it!! Now I know why people love this stuff.

Tom's coffee - Can not wait to try - this was the first thing I was going to try, but I don't have a grinder, so I'm going to wait till I can use a friends - but the smell......LOVE

The other products I have used and really loved (the lip gloss) shaping oil or have plans to do so soon.

Loved my box, thanks for all the thought and time you put into it!!

    Hello,

Not a "yoga" question, but a question about the proteins in my ybcbox. I've been curious about this product since Lauren did her recipe using it on the blog. Do you (Candace, Lauren or anyone else who uses this) use this in addition to protein powder in a shake, or replacing it? I just made a smoothie for breakfast and wondered if I should do both.

I always wondered about the sleep tracking, okay, you wake up, rub your eyes and see the results of your sleep.
What do you do with that information?
I know step challenges can motivate you, but what happens if you find out that you slept six hours and your friend slept six and a half...what do you do?
  19. nfenchak liked a post in a topic by yogafire in Fitness Wrist Trackers
OK, I just got a Fitbit Charge HR last week (the one with the heart rate sensor) and today was the first time I wore it during a 1.5 hour yoga class.  It tracked barely any steps during class and didn't log my movement as exercise.  I turned on the exercise mode to more accurately track my heart rate, but my heart rate never even reached the "fat burning" zone, so FitBit did not log it as a workout.

So, a fitness track is not going to do anything for yoga practice I think, unless you are doing a lot of vinyasa flow.  For a more hatha based class, like the one I took, I suspect all the ujayii breathing helps regulate the heart rate.  The highest my heart rate went was 71 bpm during sun salutations while my resting heart rate is 52 bpm. I was jogging to class because I was running late, and then speed walking back home to make some traffic lights, and you can see those spikes reach my cardio and fat burn zone, but yoga never came anywhere close.  So, it's good to wear all the time because walking is a lot healthier for you than you realize, but don't expect it to measure your yoga practice.

However, since the Fitbit is tracking heart rate, it can still estimate how many calories are burned, if that is important to you.  Check out the bottom "Activity History" and see how many calories I burned for 1.5 hour yoga session, and see the June 20th activity where I went for a 20 minute run.  Yoga is not just for body, it's also for the mind, and no technology can track that for you!

Overall, I love the FitBit so far for tracking my sleep, how many flights of stairs I walk (because of hills!), and tracking my runs because it reflected that I hit my peak heart rate when I started getting out of breath, and then went down to cardio rate when I eased up on my running pace.  But not for tracking my yoga practice!

Thanks Candace, your reviews were actually super helpful because you wrote a good bit about sizing in there (not the case with other sites). Also, your site is one of the first to show up when you type "Teeki pants review" into Google

I ordered the small and they arrived today....and they fit like a glove. My personal take is that the small fits perfectly for my frame (see photo), and sizing up as recommended would probably have been too much. The waistband seems looser than on other yoga pants, but it still provides enough compression. I feel as though sizing up would have been a mistake.

Thanks everyone for your input! I really appreciate it!

    Hi everyone,

After eyeing Teeki's hot yoga pant selection for quite some time, I'm going for it and will splurge on a pair of cloud print leggings - yay! I've never owned Teekis and am therefore not familiar with the sizing. Internet reviewers seem to be divided over purchasing true to size or one size up. Can anyone let me know what their experience has been, please? I'm an in-between-sizes type of girl (S/M) and have read that the waistband slips down sometimes when you size up.

    Thanks guys!

    Paula

P.S.: For those of you wondering why I don't just order 2 sizes and return one after trying both on...I have had terrible experiences with companies not accepting returns and would rather just avoid it if possible.
