    Hi there!
Two years ago, I was be a regular here and would be totally obsessed about yoga.  After all my travels and work, I fell out of my routine, and it really hurt me inside as I would really love my practice.  I know it takes 21 days to form a habit, and I'm hoping to wake up earlier and start practicing a little bit every morning to get me back on the yoga train!  Wish me luck!

It seems like you all have had good experiences in India.  I'm most worried about the safety / health aspect of india, and the overall culture shock. Even though I'm indian I'm totally westernized and I feel that India would be an overwhelming experience for me. Can anyone address these concerns I have?  I can't imagine going to a place where I can get sick so easily and not be able to drink the water .

Hi THere. As you may know I came to this forum a few months ago and i was actively practicing yoga and participating here. However due to my summer travels and my hectic wedding season, I find myself 'too tired' and unmotivated to get to my mat.  I'm usually good on a routine but it's when I leave the country for a week or so, it throws my routine all off.  Can I have some advice on how to get my yoga practice back to how it once was. I know some of the answers may be fairly obvious, but I need all the help I can get right now  Thanks!

Is there a teacher's class you enjoyed a lot, and can go back to rekindle that motivation? Or an online yoga video that made you really enjoyed the sequencing or made you feel good before, and you can go through it again?  I understand traveling throws off the schedule - but instead of trying to force yourself back into routine, is it possible to view it as missing a friend and visiting them again? I literally tell my teachers after I haven't showed up for awhile that I missed them, and I sincerely mean it.

I had a month hiatus recently.  I was too stressed with work to make the time to go or do yoga, even though I knew I needed it. I even kept reading and participating in the forum to keep myself "yoga engaged", but it wasn't enough to motivate me to actually go to practice (since it's almost a 2 hr commitment when walking to and from class).

I finally made it to back to a class that I love, and it was the last day my teacher taught before going on maternity leave.  I was so grateful I caught her before she left, and then I've been more motivated to attend the other 2 classes I most enjoy so they can remind me of how I good I feel after class.

I think I was taking it for granted that my teachers would always be there when I could make it back, but when I re-frame my attendance is about continuing our student / teacher relationship, I am more motivated to attend class on a regular basis.  The classes I like to attend have been an investment - I have built trust with the teacher and the teacher has built her knowledge about my body, so any assists I receive feel very personalized.

I've learned recently that people will ALWAYS have an opinion about you.

People have commented on my vegetarianism my whole life, and then my tattoos and piercings...and now so my yoga practice.  I just learned that you always gotta just do you

I'm a Wedding Photographer, and I use yoga to become more flexible and get those hard to reach angles.  True story.  It used to hurt to hold a camera while sitting in garland pose, but now it's a cinch!

I had the chance to attend Bhakti fest last summer in California and I thought it was amazing it goes on for 5 days an there is so much to do , During the day there are different yoga classes to attend anything from restorative to acro yoga and different meditation classes as well, there is a food area where everything you get is made at the moment and organic , most of it is vegan or vegetarian , as the sun goes down there are some sun setting yoga classes that are great , and at night there is this concert like area where you get all the different musicians and artist performing and it turns into a big dancing part that goes on for a lon, long time , the energy is incredible and I forgot to mention that all this takes place in the desert , whit the most beautiful open spaces , don't worry there is a lot of shade and you get to experience the great sunset views and at night the magnificent desert sky filled with stars , it is just great , and they offer different types of accommodation, going from camping and RV areas to bungalow style rentals or there are always a ton of little hotels close by in Josgua tree or Yucca valley
In case you decide that you got your festival dose and feel like exploring, you have Joshua tree national park right there , with tons of great hiking options or rock climbing
This is an amazing festival yo which I am planning to attend again this year an I truly recommend it

Perhaps practice at home first to open up the hips and then go to a tougher class?

Wow I love this question so much and am so thankful that you've started this thread!

For the most part, @mrballhoonhands (aka my husband) and I agree on nearly everything, though he does have a tendency to immediately think of the worst case scenario in certain situations (business deals, travel hiccups, etc) whereas I try to always come from a place of yes or believing that things will work out. We're lucky that we both communicate really well and when this happens, we can talk through it and he agrees it's something he needs to work on. When we are disagreeing, we try really hard to use 'I' statements to explain how we're feeling or the thought process behind why we do what we do.

My biggest challenge is other people in my life who don't "get" yoga or my very specific dietary needs and make fun or talk down to me about it. When that happens, I usually just try to remember that everyone is doing the best they know how and their behavior is a reflection of whatever it is they're going through and really has nothing to do with me. Note that I said I *usually* try to remember this  ...I'm not always successful. For a very long time (i.e. most of my teens and twenties) I went through life with a chip on my shoulder and was very reactive to situations. I immediately went on the defense for nearly every challenge I was faced with. It's a real crap way to go through life - so emotionally draining and so inconsiderate of others. It was only when I started having physical reactions to stress (my joints would literally enlarge and become extremely painful) that I realized I need to get myself under control and learn to approach things more calmly and not to react.

Looking forward to hearing from others

I am looking for a yoga buddy... someone to keep me on track with my at home practices when there are no classes.

I am mid 20s. Very inflexible. Not extremely low, but still low upper body strength. Relatively fit though.

Goals include being able to bend at the hips, which I am currently incapable of, touching my toes, forearm stand, and being able to do at least 2 pull ups. End date for these goals is the end of May.

I want my buddy to be in Canada or the US, and I would like to be able to share my number with them in time to help get motivation via text as well.

I would prefer my buddy to be more knowledgeable than me, and have a lot of patience. Understand that starting May, I will be working a lot, and not always be around my phone.

Don't care about your sex, race, or age. I require someone who can accept me as I am though as well. I hope that we will be able to send pictures back and forth, as I feel like you will know I am keeping up with my practice if i send you a picture of me doing a pose, etc.

Basically, unfortunately, I need a buddy who at least for the first little while doesn't need me, but who really wants a "project" and is willing to open up to me as well.

    Any takers?

So I am working on the 31 day strength project and my chosen strength is a supported headstand. It is coming along nicely, but now I want to fine tune my core strength and posture. When I am going into the supported headstand, I walk my feet until my hips are above my shoulders, but I notice that my upper back is pretty rounded and my lower back as well. Basically, I can't get my hips/ butt to straighten until I kick my feet up (I have been videoing myself and I have seen progress). I am wondering, how do I get my upper back and my lower back to straighten? Am I tight in my lower back or my hips maybe? Anyone else struggle with this? I am also pretty weak in the core so I am sure that has something to do with it. Thanks!
