  1. I've been becoming more aware of my breath lately and I've come to realize that in normal life I tend to hold my breath then I get a quick shallow breath afterwards. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this in themselves or has tips for breathing consistently. Who knew I'd have to teach myself to do something that's supposed to be natural. Also in my yoga routines I'm finding my exhales are easily drawn out and controlled but my inhales feel like they have only so far to go and then stop quickly. They can be way shorter than my exhales. Is it possible that I'm holding my belly in a way that doesn't allow the inhale to fully form? Open to any suggestions. Thanks! Namastay
  2. I was in a class tonight and the teacher had us really focusing on our hips. In one pose I felt my upper thigh tremble and felt a rush of emotions flood my body. I pulled back out to go into child's pose to rest and compose myself. I felt overwhelmed with emotion the rest of the class and still haven't been able to shake it. Has anyone else felt this before? How do you recover? I normally leave my mat feeling light and joyful. Tonight I feel heartbroken. -Tiff
  3. Hi y'all! I'm looking for some advice from someone who's hopefully similar to me. I feel really deeply. I sense others emotions/intentions before I even notice it. I've always been quite sensitive to vibes (for lack of a better explanation.) It wasn't until I met a former coworker who was the same for me to realize it and since I've been trying to pay extra care to what I'm allowing to affect me. I'm seeking tips to avoid letting others' emotions control me. I seem to always take what another person is feeling and intensify it. Which is great when I'm around happiness but draining when it's frustration, anger, or depression.. I'm really hoping there's others that understand this and have been successful at controlling it. Cheers ?
  4. I've recently started learning the basic skills for Roller Derby. I've found even with upgrading my wrist guards that I easily injure my wrists when I fall. I finally got one wrist healed up and went and landed weird on the other and did the exact same injury to the other wrist. Tips for exercises/stretches to help strengthen wrists?
  5. Around the same time I started increasing my workout loads I started losing my appetite. I've been tracking my workouts/nutrition and I've been partially waiting until I'm hungry and partly forcing myself to eat something. I understand it's important to have the fuel there to operate especially with adding heavier workouts into the mix, but it's been difficult getting enough food because of the lack of appetite. Otherwise I'm healthy---everything else has been normal. I have seen a lack of energy that I'm also attributing to not eating enough. Has anyone else experienced this? xo Tiffany
  6. Thank you! I'm exhausted all the time and this week I only hit my macros percentages twice but with my workouts I've yet to hit my calories. I'm going to try the smaller meals more frequently. I just left a derby practice a bit bummed because I didn't have the energy to do what I felt like I should be doing. Here's to a new day! <3
  7. Day 5 was challenging but beautifully so. In meditation "self-care" really struck me. It's something I've been practicing in other areas but mentally has been a challenge. So today during the routine I kept focused on self-care and allowing myself room to do what I needed to do when something came up. Feeling positive. <3 <3
  8. It's never too late to join in, Kathleen. You can start from day one or pickup on day 5 where we are. Welcome! <3
  9. Thank you for your encouragement, Candace. I can't seem to hear this advice enough. One day I'm sure it'll break through and take root. <3 <3
  10. Day two of the Yoga Fit challenge and I've found myself down and out. Super disappointed at my HIIT performance and how quickly I called it quits. I've been working out more regularly over the past months but just started getting into cardio...because cardio is torture. :'( But my goals definitely include getting stronger at cardio work. Anyway, having a tough time being kind to myself after today's attempt. </3 I'll reboot and get back at it tomorrow.
  11. @YogaByCandace: Thanks! I double checked all my email mailboxes for it and got nothing. I've sent an email to Lauren. Thank you for your help!!
  12. In anticipation of this weekend's workshop I went to look at my receipt to make sure I had the times down correctly and I found that I never received a receipt from purchasing the ticket. I have it in my bank account records but just wanted to double check that is alright and that I wouldn't have troubles getting in this weekend. Also was unsure of how to contact about the issue so I'm hoping it was okay to start here.
  13. I'm like this with everyone. It's way more apparent in my marriage because like you said when I feel my husband's emotions I internalize them and somehow magnify it. So his frustration becomes a huge deal for me and we spark fires from that. ? I tend to try to notice it quicker with him though because we've discussed it so many times now.
  14. Day two complete! I'd love to help. I've never done the accountability thing so I don't know what works best but I will be doing my best to post here daily after I've done the scheduled practice. ? Cheers!
  15. HI! I thought I'd reintroduce myself. I originally found YBC while living in Michigan, I then moved temporarily to Sydney, Australia, and now I'm reading from Austin, Texas! If there's any Austin locals feel free to msg me.
  16. My first day photos. It's already so helpful to see the photos and pinpoint what parts of the pose needs working on. <3
  17. What pose is everyone choosing? I'm thinking Dancer pose. ??
  18. I'd love to have a video that's under 30min that would intrigue my husband into the world of yoga. He's 80-90% sedetary lifestyle. We walk about or hike together, that about the extent. And he's got an old shoulder injury from archery that he's scared of reinjuring. I've been trying to ease him into yin yoga, because I think it'll help, esp with his shoulder. But the classes I do online or in person are 1hr to 1.5 hrs. So, a 30min for an absolute beginner with a secretary lifestyle and a shoulder concern. Much love! ?
  19. Wild thing! These are beautiful! I echo others sentiments that you've got a wonderful talent that you're cultivating. Your hard work shows and is appreciated as you've made such beautiful art. ?
  20. Hi y'all, I've been easing my way into power yoga lately. Last week I started researching the strength project that Candace started at the beginning of the year. { } I started it today and chose Baby Grasshopper as my power pose. I've watched this video on how to do the pose { } many times over and I'm still unable to get myself into the pose. I'm trying to lend myself grace to grow through the project, and I chose the project and pose with the intention of it being a challenge and also to see results at the end. Would you advise starting the project with a pose that I can already get into and improving upon that pose or is starting with a pose that I'm unable to get into perfectly fine? My main goals for the project are to strengthen my core and overall body and to be able to get into baby grasshopper. Thanks in advance for all advice and encouragement.
  21. So the day after I posted this I got really sick and spent the next two weeks battling it. Then my first day back to yoga practice I pulled something in my lower back. Oi vey. -.- Taking a power yoga hiatus until I can get myself back into the groove. <3 <3
  22. Hi Candace! Yes, I can get set up properly. So that gives me encouragement. I'm just not able to lift my body up yet. I'll try to do a video with tomorrow's practice. I don't have an instagram (shocker! ?). Could I post the video reply on here? I could always make an account otherwise. ? Thank you for the reply, ❤.
  23. Hi all! my friend is getting into yoga and wants a good but cheap yoga mat. She's maxing at $25. any and all suggestions are wonderful! Thank you!! Tiff
  24. Hey-o Everyone! I've been thinking extensively about my personal yoga practice and how to grow it into it's next form. I'm quite interested to see what fellow yogi's are doing and have done to grow in each step of their own practice. A bit about my journey: Many years ago I started taking a yoga class at a summer camp I was in. Following the conclusion of the camp I bought a yoga-pilates video that I'd wake up early every morning and follow through. It had 3 sections of area specific routines then a full body routine so I would alternate through them. Fast forward, life got busier, I changed priorities and set down yoga for a few years. A couple of years ago I slowly injected it back into my life. I found YBC on youtube and it's been a non-stop blessing since. Until now, my yoga plan consisted of hopping online and browsing for a YBC video that fit my fancy for the day, I'd go through it, and that'd be it. I deal with chronic pain and as I've continued in my practice I've begun to use it as a remedy. The pain always returns in the morning but like Pavlov's dog when I feel the pain my reaction is yoga. It's become a wonderful necessity that I look forward to. Now that it's a routine I'm looking to mature my practice. ... With that said, what has your yoga journey looked like? How have you evolved it? Are there certain videos you follow on regimented days as you work to better that specific routine? Do you go for flow one day and alternate with power or balance? Are there specific things you do outside of yoga (other types of exercise) with intent to better your yoga? Do you go through a class or video then also practice on specific poses? How do you work to improve your poses? ... My main goal here is to see what others' practices look like and seek out things I can incorporate into my own practice. Thank you for letting me scrape your minds. <3 Tiff
  25. Hi kcharts! I appreciate your reply! It's really cool that you were introduced so early on in your life---and to be able to learn while living on Native American Reservations is brilliant! I've always wanted to get a chance to connect to that part of my bloodline. I'm sure my feet would have never touched the ground. One of the poses I'm advancing towards is crow. I got closer than I've ever been yesterday and it rejuvenated my excitement. I'm also looking to concur the motion of raising myself from lying face-down on the mat to plank (unsure if there's an actual name for this--I'm putting a link to one of Candace's videos here: at 2:10. There are other videos where this is a form to flow through as well.) I believe my main weakness in both forms to be my core but I am working towards strengthening it. I'm all ears for any helpful advice. (Well, eyes, really.)
