Spinal Compression?

What exactly does "no compression in the spine" mean? 

Great question - basically, we don't want a sharp angle in the back because it can cause injury. So, for example, if you look at this dancer's pose common mistakes post, you'll see that in the top pic there is more of a wide U shape and the bottom pic it's almost a V. It might not be something noticeable really, but if you visualize always lengthening even when you're back-bending you may be able to feel the difference.  :54:
