Wrist and elbow pain . . . tennis elbow

3 posts in this topic

Does anyone have advice on how to take care of my wrist and elbows?  I went to a doctor and they believe it's tennis elbow . . . is it because I'm using incorrect form for yoga?  Do I need to strengthen my wrists more?

Do you practice with a trained instructor? Ask them to evaluate your posture and form. It's hard for people who can't see what you're doing to make recommendations. If it's really bothering you, seek a second opinion from a different trained medical professional.

Did the pain just start? Did you just start practicing yoga?

Yeah, it's hard to say for sure, but some things to consider:

  • do you do repetitive motions with that one arm?
  • do you hyperextend the elbow when you're in poses like downward dog?
  • how is your strength in the bicep, tricep and forearm of that arm? If it's not so great, consider building some muscle to help support the joint.
  • how is your diet in terms of inflammatory foods you consumer? If it's not so great, consider reducing your intake of foods that cause inflammation (like sugar and processed foods) and adding in foods that fight inflammation (like fresh ginger, lemon, water, juicing, fermented foods, etc).
  • check out this for wrists.
